Initial Appointment - legal advice

Let us help you

If you simply want some advice about your situation or guidance on what to do next an appointment of up to one hour with an expert family solicitor may be all you need. At our first meeting with you we will listen to your explanation of your concerns and we will help you understand your legal position and give you options for moving forward. Even if you do not wish to take any immediate action, you will leave your initial meeting with a better understanding of how the law applies to you and the different pathways you can take to resolve your matter. Our initial consultation provides you with an option to seek advice prior to engaging a solicitor. Having all those initial questions answered will enable you to make an informed decision as to where you stand, what your options are and how to proceed.

If full representation is required we offer a fixed fee service to all our clients.

Our Charges
We charge a fixed fee of $330.00 (includes GST) for your initial one hour consultation, payable on the day of your consultation by eftpos, cash or cheque.

Conflict
When you first contact us we will ask for your full name and the full name of your spouse or partner. This is so that we can check that we do not have a conflict of interest. We cannot see you and your former spouse or partner together and can only advise or act for one or the other. We can however work with them on your behalf if we are subsequently engaged.

Ensuring you only pay for the help you need

You manage your case but get professional advice and assistance from us, as required for some task.

Our lawyers will assist you through the process by providing advice, while you then conduct your own discussions with your former spouse or partner. This process is successful between separated parties who are still able to communicate effectively, where conflict levels are low, and a high level of trust exists between the former couple.

Any agreement reached in this type of negotiation, should be the subject of legal advice, and will need to be formalised to be binding.

If full representation is required we offer a fixed fee service to all our clients.

Available for:
Advice, Answering legal questions, Writing letters, Preparing documents, Coaching on how to best present your case if you are self representing.

Answer:

All our Legal Task Help services are provided on a fixed fee basis. We will provide you with an upfront quote for the fixed fee, depending on the tasks you need help with.

Answer

We use a screening process to ensure that your matter is suitable for this type of help. This style of legal practice is not suitable for all people or for all family law legal problems. It is designed for:

  • People who are reasonably confident about handling their problem themselves, and;
  • Problems that can be resolved by negotiation, or that are dealt with in one of the processes or tribunals where self-representation is common.
